ARE EYE CHECK-UPS NECESSARY IN THE ABSENCE OF SYMPTOMS?
An annual eye check-up is important – especially for young people – as many eye diseases can begin at an early age and can be asymptomatic, like glaucoma. Eye examinations can also detect a number of other underlying health problems, such as high blood pressure and diabetes. In addition, the earlier a problem is detected, the greater the likelihood of its treatment being successful.
IS EYE PROTECTION FROM THE SUN AND UV RAYS ESSENTIAL?
It is essential to protect the eyes in very sunny conditions by wearing sunglasses. Winter mountain activities such as skiing always require eye protection as the snow tends to reflect large amounts of damaging UV rays into the eyes
DOES SMOKING AFFECT THE EYES?
Smoking can cause extensive damage to eyes. Studies have shown that smokers are at an increased risk of developing cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and damage to the optic nerve.
ARE COMPUTER AND TELEVISION SCREENS HARMFUL TO THE EYES?

MY EYES ARE ALWAYS DRY AND IRRITATE ME – WHAT CAN I DO?
Dry eyes are a typical consequence of daily life where people spend a lot more time in front of mobile phone screens than they used to. It is important to give your eyes a break every now and then and to blink! If the problem persists, we recommend that you book an appointment so that a specialist can prescribe medicine/drops and, depending on the severity of the situation, suggest an alternative plan of action.
I AM HAVING TROUBLE CONTACTING THE HOSPITAL FOR AN APPOINTMENT – WHAT CAN I DO?
Although we have multiple phone lines and switchboard operators, our lines do tend to get very busy at peak time. We encourage patients to use an online form to book an appointment or send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org – we can guarantee a better response time
THE APPOINTMENT I WAS GIVEN IS TOO FAR – CAN I GET AN APPOINTMENT SOONER?
We try our best to give our patients appointments as soon as possible; however, some of our doctors have very busy schedules with long waiting lists. We recommend visiting one of our satellite clinics (Hamra, Antelias) where our doctors’ schedules are a bit more flexible.
